"Track cycling for everyone"

The association Bahnradsport Bayern e.V. organises, promotes and sponsors track cycling in parasports, competitive sports and sports for youths.

In addition to classic track cycling with single bikes, paracycling involves tandem track cycling, in which a pilot rides on a track bike together with a visually impaired or mentally disabled athlete. Tandem track cycling is also used in youth welfare to enable a special experience for caregivers, parents and young people in individual care.
The association was founded in January 2020 and combines all three areas. It offers track cycling training and track cycling events for young athletes with and without a disability, and for competitive athletes and supervised youth. The inclusion of young athletes as tandem pilots allows them to offer track cycling in schools for the blind and for mentally disabled athletes.

Rather than revolving around the disability or the social environment, the focus on track cycling helps to draw attention to the sport, focusing on the enthusiasm for track racing, track tactics and tandem partnerships instead.

Fundamental basics

Paracycling for athletes with a disability

Active youth work in popular and competitive sports provides young people with disabilities a perspective in structured sports, as well as important support in the tasks of overcoming their own hurdles and contributing to a self-determined life. In tandem parasports, athletes with visual or mental disabilities ride together with tandem pilots from competitive sports.

In schools and workshops for the blind and for people with cerebral dysfunction, tandem paracycling and role training are offered on single bikes.

Disabled people are supported along with young athletes, including recruitment trainings in cooperation with the German Sports Association (DSB).

Through this, we are following our slogan of "building bridges and overcoming walls".

Popular sports for youths

In trainings, cycling training courses and competitions, young people that are part of an intensive individual social care unit are all on equal footing. The involvement in regular sport shapes young people and promotes character and personality development in a similar way to competitive sports.

We offer basic training in track cycling regardless of associations. The mutual coaching and peer learning of the athletes irrespective of mass/performance/parasport is central to our track cycling community.

A special medium in youth welfare is tandem sport, in which the tandem pilot steers and brakes - and demands and promotes trust in the "tandem stoker" (the driver behind the pilot).

As special promotions with the help of cooperations, we offer events, e. g. the "Futhuk pedal heroes".

All competitive athletes who work for parasports and the track cycling community have a perspective and a home in Bahnradsport Bayern e.V.

Competitive sports and youth work in track cycling

Regardless of the squad structures of the associations, athletes have a home in track cycling with us. Taking into account the racing age and an individuals previous experience, targeted training and development allows for the connection to senior athletes and also offers perspective in competitive sports for second row athletes.

The competitive sports network is active in talent racing training courses in Augsburg, Niederpöring and Nuremberg, and aims to network with other racing tracks and track cycling teams across Germany and Europe.

Learning structures in competitive sports is important - and with it, the integration of sports, school and family. As in popular sports, mutual coaching and peer learning of the athletes is of high importance.

Through joint talent scouting with paras athletes, young athletes are assisted by the video analysis of races and in particular through the provision of material and infrastructure.

As a special promotion, participation in 6-day races is made possible for young athletes of all areas.
